Remembering Blood, Sweat & Tears Singer: A Tribute to a Legend
David Clayton-Thomas, the Canadian singer known for fronting the American jazz-rock group Blood, Sweat & Tears, has passed away at the age of 84. His publicist, Eric Alper, confirmed his death on Tuesday evening, with Clayton-Thomas peacefully passing away on 24 June at St Michaelâs Hospital in Toronto. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Clayton-Thomas had a remarkable career that took him from the streets of Toronto to the stage at Woodstock and beyond. After auditioning for Blood, Sweat & Tears in New York City, he became the band’s frontman. Their second album, released in 1968, won five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
Throughout his career, Clayton-Thomas achieved significant milestones, such as being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1996. His signature hit, “Spinning Wheel,” from 1969, was also inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007.
He is survived by his daughters, Ashleigh Clayton-Thomas and Christine Graham. Columbia Records holds the photo credits.
