Lionel Richie Concert Cut Short: Fans Left Disappointed as Performance Abruptly Ends
Lionel Richie had to cut short the opening night of his latest tour after falling ill on Wednesday night. The 77-year-old performed at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota for the opening night of the Sing a Song All Night Long Tour but had to abruptly end the show after 55 minutes.
During his performance, Richie sat down on a step onstage multiple times while singing his hit song, Dancing on the Ceiling, and expressed to the audience that he wasn’t feeling well. He even humorously commented, “When youâre feeling dizzy, sit your a*s down.” Richie then performed his ballad Three Times a Lady on the piano before announcing an unplanned intermission due to his health.
Richie’s co-headliners, Earth, Wind & Fire, had no indication that Richie was unwell before the show. The drummer mentioned that Richie seemed a little dehydrated, which could have contributed to his sudden illness.
Despite the incident, Richie has not yet addressed what happened. Before the show, he shared backstage photos and expressed gratitude to his band and crew for their hard work in preparing for the tour.
The Sing a Song All Night Long Tour, which consists of 26 dates, is set to continue until August 14th. Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire are scheduled to perform in Chicago next on Friday.
