The landslide was triggered by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning that swept through several parts of Kabupaten Tana Tidung, especially in Kecamatan Sesayap.
Not only did the landslide occur, but the heavy rain that started at 10.00 pm also caused power outages and network connections to be lost until around 08.00 WITA in the morning.
