A recent incident in Sunter, North Jakarta, involving an arrogant online taxi driver who went on a rampage and damaged the side mirror of a Mini Cooper has led to his arrest by the police. The driver, identified as Glenn Victor Kasekeyan, is now facing charges under Article 521 of the Criminal Code regarding vandalism, with a maximum penalty of 2.5 years in prison.
According to AKP Nurul Farouq Fadillah, the Head of Subdit Resmob at the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jakarta Metro Police, the incident began with a dispute on the road while driving. Both the victim and the perpetrator were passing through the Sunter area of North Jakarta.
When the victim refused to give way to the driver while making a turn, a near collision occurred, leading to the driver becoming enraged and verbally abusing the victim. The driver then got out of his Calya car, confronted the victim, and caused a scene in the middle of the road.
Demanding that the victim exit the car, the driver was met with refusal as the victim continued to record the incident from inside the vehicle. In a fit of anger, the driver proceeded to strike and damage the victim’s car’s side mirror, break two wipers, and damage the car’s body.
As a result of the perpetrator’s actions, the victim incurred losses amounting to Rp 50 million. The driver was subsequently apprehended by the police on Thursday night and now faces a maximum sentence of 2.5 years in prison.
